Stand Up, Speak Out

All of us at Malvern Books condemn the ongoing police brutality that disproportionately affects Black Americans. We also condemn the police’s violent response toward the current protests. We believe it is our responsibility to use our platform to encourage meaningful action within our community. It is not enough for us to be “not racist.” We must be actively anti-racist.

We’ve compiled a list of recommended reads in the Stand Up, Speak Out section of our BookShop.org page. You can also purchase many of these titles from Black Pearl Books, an Austin-based Black-owned bookshop that specializes in online and pop-up sales.

Please see our Instagram stories for a list of other Black-owned businesses you can support in Austin.

More resources we can all use to learn, donate, speak out, and promote change:

Donate what you can to the following organizations and funds:

Take five minutes to respond to the City of Austin’s budget survey, and demand that the gross over-funding of the police be reallocated to vital social services that minimize the need for policing.
